Botulinum toxin, also known as Botox, has become very popular over the past couple of years for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating facial features. It is a simple and non-surgical procedure where very low doses of a natural purified protein are placed into specific muscles. This causes the muscle to relax preventing contraction.
The actual mechanism of botox begins with blocking the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, a compound required for the muscle to contract. Without constriction, the muscle will not be able to pull the attached, overlying skin into the creases which results in wrinkles.
The effects are only temporary, however the procedure itself requires no recovery time. Therefore it is not as complicated as many other cosmetic procedures. The main treatment areas for botox are as below.
|Treatment Area 1||Glabella/Vertical Frown Lines|
|Treatment Area 2||Crows Feet|
|Treatment Area 3||Horizontal Forehead Lines|
|Additional Area||Chin/Mouth/Bunny Lines|
